Stillwater is where we do some of our most detailed work. More than 100 projects since 2019, most of them 1870s to 1900s Victorians and Italianates on the North Hill and South Hill, with lead-safe prep, real carpentry and multi-color schemes built into nearly every job.

Stillwater's hill neighborhoods hold one of the best-preserved collections of Victorian houses in Minnesota, and they are demanding to paint properly. Original cedar clapboard, fish-scale shingles, turned porch posts and deep cornices all carry more than a century of paint. Our process is a low-pressure wash, lead-safe hand scraping under plastic containment (no sanding, chips HEPA-vacuumed), carpentry on rotted sills and porch parts, priming bare wood, then two coats in as many colors as the scheme calls for. Three-color schemes are typical; we have painted seven.
Newer Stillwater, west of Highway 5 and along Norell and Neal Avenues, is 1990s-2010s two-stories with cedar and LP siding on larger lots, plus lakeshore homes toward Grant and Lake Elmo. Those paint faster and price lower, and are a good share of our Stillwater work too.

Over the last two seasons the middle half of our Stillwater exterior projects ran from $5,020 to $15,300, with a median of $9,610. What moves the number is size, siding type, carpentry and whether the home is pre-1978 and needs lead-safe prep.

Our Stillwater exteriors over the last two seasons had a median of $9,610, with the middle half running from about $5,020 to $15,300. Large hill Victorians with three or more colors, carpentry and full lead-safe prep are above that range; newer two-stories west of town are below it.
Yes. Rotted sills, porch flooring, columns, brackets and trim are rebuilt by our carpentry crew before painting. Small repairs are hourly; anything substantial gets a fixed carpentry bid you approve first.
Every pre-1978 home gets EPA RRP lead-safe prep: containment, wet methods, HEPA cleanup and no open-flame removal. We are an EPA Lead-Safe Certified Firm and the lead-safe steps are itemized on the proposal.
Yes. We paint schemes specified by color consultants regularly and can suggest period-appropriate combinations. Paint color alone generally does not need Heritage Preservation Commission approval in Stillwater, but replacing original siding or trim in a historic district can, and we can help you check.
Longer than a typical house. Plan on one to two weeks of crew time depending on size, carpentry and the number of colors, with a project manager on site to walk each stage with you.
An estimator comes to the house, measures it, checks for lead and rot, and leaves you a printed proposal with the prep steps itemized. No pressure and no obligation.
