What we paint in St. Louis Park

East of Highway 100, Fern Hill, Lake Forest, Cedarhurst and the streets near Cedar Lake are 1920s and 1930s stucco and Tudor homes that paint like their Minneapolis neighbors: oxidation wash, patching and lead-safe prep on original trim. West of 100, Bronx Park, Sorensen, Elmwood and Aquila are mostly 1950s and 1960s ramblers and split-levels with lap siding, redwood or cedar accents and aluminum trim, where a bonding primer and the right sheen make the difference.

St. Louis Park also gives us a lot of mid-century redwood and cedar staining, and small-lot interiors during remodels and sales. Because the homes are generally smaller than Edina or Wayzata, St. Louis Park exteriors tend to price below the metro median.

St. Louis Park painting questions

What does it cost to paint a house in St. Louis Park?

The middle half of our St. Louis Park exteriors over the last two seasons ran from about $2,900 to $8,630, median $5,390. Ramblers with aluminum trim are at the low end; two-story stucco with lead-safe prep at the high end.

Can you stain the redwood on my mid-century house?

Yes. Redwood and cedar accents from the 1950s and 60s take a semi-transparent or semi-solid stain well once cleaned and brightened. If the boards have been painted, we will recommend a solid stain or paint instead.

My rambler has aluminum siding. Can it be painted?

Yes. Aluminum siding paints well with a clean, a bonding primer where the factory finish has chalked, and an acrylic topcoat. It is usually a lower-cost exterior than wood or stucco.

Is there lead paint in St. Louis Park homes?

On pre-1978 homes, assume yes. Most of Fern Hill and Lake Forest is pre-1940 and gets full lead-safe prep. Many 1960s ramblers have lead in original trim paint too, so we test and itemize the lead-safe steps on the proposal.

How soon can you start?

Exteriors book by the week from April through October; interiors run year-round. Your estimator will give you a real start window, not a vague one.
